Looks like a treble maker
Experience bold, boundary-crossing jazz when the Cyrus Nabipoor Quartet hits the stage at the Newport Performing Arts Center this Saturday, April 11.
The Portland-based trumpeter brings a sound that blends New Orleans lyricism with forward-leaning contemporary jazz, creating music that feels both rooted in tradition and distinctly modern.
Nabipoor’s playing is known for its emotional immediacy, pairing soaring melodies with fearless improvisation, all supported by deep grooves and a tight-knit ensemble dynamic.
A versatile artist, Nabipoor has appeared at major festivals including PDX Jazz, Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, Montavilla Jazz Festival, Mt. Hood Jazz Festival, the New Orleans French Quarter Festival and Chicago Instigation. His original compositions have been commissioned by the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble and his work as a producer and session musician has led to collaborations with artists such as Nicky Youre, Grace Enger and the Peach Tree Rascals.
On stage, he has shared billing with a wide range of acclaimed performers including Jamison Ross, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Jason Marsalis, Steve Masakowski, Stanton Moore and Elle King.
Saturday’s concert begins at 7:30 pm at the Newport Performing Arts Center, located at 777 W Olive Street. General admission tickets are $32. For more information, go to coastarts.org or call 541-265-2787.
