The key to your musical weekend

Experience world-class piano when acclaimed musician Joel Fan performs at the historic Wi-Ne-Ma Chapel as part of Neskowin Chamber Music’s 30th anniversary season this Sunday, April 12.

Praised as “superb” by The Boston Globe, “extraordinary” by The Village Voice and a “versatile and sensitive pianist” by The Washington Post, Fan has built an international reputation for his artistry and expressive performances. A native of New York, he began performing at the age of 11 with the New York Philharmonic after winning the orchestra’s Young People’s Concert Auditions.

Fan’s repertoire spans classical masterworks, original transcriptions and newly commissioned pieces. He has appeared with leading ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony and London Sinfonietta, working with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, David Zinman and Alan Gilbert. His career highlights include a debut at the BBC Proms at Royal Albert Hall and the world premiere of Leon Kirchner’s “Sonata No. 3.”

In addition to his concert work, Fan released his debut solo album “World Keys” in 2006, which debuted at number three on the Billboard Classical chart and earned praise as a “soaring talent” from the Los Angeles Times. He is also a prizewinner of international competitions, including the Busoni International Piano Competition, and was named a Presidential Scholar by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.

As a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, Fan has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center and appeared on national broadcasts such as “Good Morning America” and “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Sunday’s concert begins at 3 pm at the historic Chapel of Wi-Ne-Ma Christian Camp, located at 5195 Winema Road in Neskowin. Tickets are $40. For more information, go to neskowinchambermusic.com.
