Desert your plans for Oasis Ensemble
Take refuge in beautiful music when Oasis Ensemble offers two opportunities to enjoy its “Classical Holiday Concert,” a radiant program featuring flute, cello and piano at the Lincoln City Cultural Center this Sunday, Dec. 7, and Newport’s Atonement Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The festive program offers a welcome pause from the bustle of the season, inviting guests into an hour of soaring melodies and timeless works.
Former Oregon Symphony principal flutist Dawn Weiss joins cellist Barbara Johnston, formerly principal cellist of the Newport Symphony, along with pianist and Naxos recording artist Tung Nguyen. Together they bring a dynamic blend of grace and virtuosity to a program that spans Bach’s “Trio Sonata in G Major” and his “Flute Sonata in E Major,” Mozart’s “Trio in E Major,” Ibert’s charming “Second Interlude” and two contemporary works selected through the ensemble’s “Call for Scores.”
The program includes “Slipping Daylight,” a reflective piece written last year by young composer Jackson Hollo and “Imps & Angels,” a spirited and witty romp by Jay Anthony Gach. The ensemble promises an afternoon filled with beauty, playfulness and the kind of musical storytelling that warms the soul.
This concert is part of Oasis Ensemble’s six-city statewide tour. Sunday’s performance begins at 3 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, located at 540 NE Hwy. 101. The Tuesday, Dec. 9, performance begins at 3 pm at Atonement Lutheran Church, located at 2315 N Hwy. 101 in Newport. Tickets are available at the door for $25 for adults and $10 for students.
