Patrick Alexander

owner & publisher

Patrick hails from Scotland, a country whose rich literary heritage boasts figures as varied as Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Walter Scott and Muriel Spark. He enjoys a good pun whenever he sees one, and loves a bad pun even more.

After meeting his wife-to-be, Krista Eddy, on a boat ferrying livestock along the coast of Chile, Patrick moved to the Oregon Coast in 2007. Over the course of half a dozen years as a reporter, he got to know the coast in all its imperfect glory and began to feel very much at home. He joined the Oregon Coast TODAY upon its purchase by EO Media Group in 2013, gladly leaving behind a world of car crashes and court cases to focus on some of the brighter points of life — like foraging for mussels, gazing at sunsets and pontificating endlessly about the merits of clam chowder.

Patrick bought the TODAY in July 2020 and remains dedicated to the mission of promoting arts, culture and outdoor activities on the Central Oregon Coast.

He lives in Lincoln City with Krista, and their son (and assistant publisher) Quinn.

Gretchen Ammerman

editor

Since moving to the Central Oregon Coast in 2006, Gretchen has written for many coastal publications including The News Guard, in Lincoln City, where she served as editor.
She has a B.S. in Environmental Science from Humboldt State University and, after leaving college, worked for many years in recycling education and waste reduction, including spending five years as the recycling coordinator for the State of Hawaii. In Oregon, she worked for the Lincoln County Solid Waste district and for North Lincoln Sanitary Service, and though she no longer works in that field she can still explain what the numbers on the bottom of plastic containers mean.
When not putting virtual pen to virtual paper, Gretchen spends time outdoors with her rescue pup Scout and also volunteers to take high-energy dogs from the Lincoln County Animal Shelter for outings. You can see follow her adventures on Instagram at offroadrunning_dog.
She married her long-term partner Jesse Smith in 2011. The wedding was performed by none other than OCT owner Patrick Alexander. If you would like to see him in his kilt, she's happy to share the images of him and his lovely knees from their wedding album.
