Lincoln City embraces vets at Celebration of Honor

Chinook Winds Casino Resort will again lead Lincoln City’s Salute to active-duty personnel, military veterans and their families with the Celebration of Honor.

Running from Wednesday, Sept. 10, through Saturday, Sept. 13, the celebration honors men and women who have served, and are serving, with events at the resort and throughout Lincoln City.

On Wednesday, veterans and active-duty personnel can stop by the Winners Circle to register and show DD-214 or other military ID, to receive a free dining voucher valid until Saturday. Winners Circle membership is required to pick up a voucher.

The Veteran Services tent, featuring veteran service providers and organizations, will be open on Friday and Saturday.

The celebration includes the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans 2001-2021 Wall of Honor provided by Albany Vets Helping Vets HQ, vintage and current day military vehicles, displayed and provided by the American Infantry Soldier Group.

A police escort of the wall and military vehicles will travel from the Lincoln City Community Center parking lot to the resort on Wednesday.

Other outdoor displays will include military flags and the Vietnam Veterans of America 805 Oregon Veteran wall.

On Saturday, the Lincoln City Kiwanis Parade of Flags will line the streets of Lincoln City and the re-dedication of the Desert Storm memorial will take place in front of the casino to honor those men and women who lost their lives in the course of duty.

Chinook Winds is sponsoring veteran and active-duty movie tickets and popcorn at the Historic Bijou Theatre from Tuesday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 15. Veterans need just show their military ID for this additional thank you for their service.

And don’t forget to explore the beach for the special floats dropped by Explore Lincoln City in honor of the event.
