Symphony transplants for organ concert

Hannah Brewer

The Newport Symphony Orchestra will return to the warm glow of Newport First Presbyterian Church for its annual “Christmas at the Coast” celebration, a candlelit program featuring beloved seasonal works and Baroque classics on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

This year’s concert showcases the church’s impressive Bond Organ with Portland organist Hannah Brewer as guest soloist. Brewer will perform Haydn’s “Organ Concerto in C Major” and join concertmaster Casey Bozell for Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Violin and Organ.” Brewer will also provide continuo accompaniment for works by Bach, Corelli and Albinoni, highlighting the organ’s central role in the program.

The orchestra will present a rich repertoire including Bach’s “Sinfonia from the Christmas Oratorio,” Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto” and Albinoni’s “Adagio for Organ and Strings.” The program also features new arrangements by Rockaway Beach composer Dave Robertson, offering a selection of holiday favorites and singalong carols designed to send audiences into the season with festive cheer.

Wednesday’s performances begin at 2 and 7:30 pm at Newport First Presbyterian Church, located at 227 NE 12th Street. Tickets are $45 for general admission and $10 for students. For more information, go to coastarts.org.
