Peck the perfect hike
Downy Woodpecker by Ruth Shelly
If you love birds, it will do your heart good to attend the Valentine’s Day walk with Seven Capes Bird Alliance at the Friends of Wildwoods Open Space this Saturday, Feb. 14.
This small forest is located right in the heart of Lincoln City. The walk will begin on the short boardwalk that overlooks a marsh to look for raptors and sparrows, then continue on into the woods to look for year-round residents such as woodpeckers, chickadees, kinglets and wintering sparrows. With luck, you’ll spot a flock of warblers.
The group will meet at 9 am at the trailhead on NE West Devils Lake Road. There is limited parking along the street at the trailhead.
All Seven Capes Bird Alliance walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. Walks are held rain or shine; dress appropriately for coastal weather and muddy trails. For more information, go to sevencapes.org.
