Manzanita hosts arts trio

A celebration of the local environment reigns in the November show at Manzanita’s Hoffman Gallery, featuring works by Janie Lowe, James Moyer and Shannon Amidon.

An opening reception will take place from 3 to 5 pm this Saturday, Nov. 8.

In the collection “Anchored and Buoyed,” Lowe’s paintings reflect a deep relationship with the Oregon Coast, expressing both the grounding and uplifting power of place. Created as acts of quiet resistance and joy amid turbulent times, her works capture the vastness and solace of the sea. Lowe’s art is a meditation on finding peace and strength in moments of smallness and stillness.

Amidon is an artist, writer, beekeeper, environmental steward and lover of insects, books and plants. Her encaustic works merge sculpted clay, nautical maps and crushed shells to evoke the textures and rhythms of the sea. Her pieces, seen in the collection “The Ocean Within,” draw from lifelong fascination and reverence for the ocean as a source of wonder, healing and perspective. The resulting works shimmer with light and memory, inviting reflection on the resilience and beauty of marine life and the connection between human and oceanic worlds.

In “Shadow and Glow,” Moyer’s hand-built driftwood and washi paper light sculptures celebrate organic form and illumination. Rooted in a deep appreciation for coastal materials and craftsmanship, Moyer’s works offer spaces of warmth and contemplation.

The Hoffman Center for the Arts is located at 594 Laneda Avenue in Manzanita and is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 pm, except the last Sunday of every month. For more information, go to hoffmanarts.org.
