Make a note of this orchestra gala

By W. W. Clyde Reid

Dan Howard is very excited about Saturday, March 28.

"This is going to be a major event here on the Oregon Coast," the Newport Symphony Orchestra's executive director said. "The grand spring Black & White-themed Gala promises to be the go-to gathering for supporters of the arts in general and fine symphonic music in particular."

The Newport Symphony Orchestra Gala, which begins at 5:30 pm and continues until everyone decides to head home, will be held in the Best Western Agate Beach grand ballroom.

"This elegant oceanfront setting is perfect for our gala, given the orchestra's long association with the sea," Howard said. "A beautiful venue for a beautiful evening."

That venue includes dining options: Pacific salmon, gourmet chicken or vegetarian pasta, plus a variety of fine wines presented at each table.

And, as one would expect at a music-sponsored gala, there will be fine music, with selected musicians from the main orchestra and the youth orchestra performing in the background.

But the highlight of the evening will surely be the auction.

"We will have a fun variety of items and events that folks can bid on," Howard said. "Everything from discounts at local restaurants and shops to exotic vacations, spa resort stays, deep-sea fishing trips and other adventures."

The auction will be conducted by auctioneer extraordinaire and long-time Oregon State Rep. David Gomberg.

"Representative Gomberg is an exciting and enthusiastic spokesman for any cause he supports," Howard said. "And his support as our auctioneer will guarantee the success of our gala."

"People who come to our gala are going to have a great night," Howard said. "We hope everyone who would like to support great art and fine music will make it there."

The Saturday, March 28, gala will be held at the Best Western Agate Beach, located at 3019 N Hwy. 101 in Newport. Tickets are $100, and sales close on March 20. For more information, go to newportsymphony.org, email info@newportsymphony.org or call at 458-868-9155.
