Give ‘Frozen’ a warm send-off
Don’t miss the closing weekend of “Frozen – the Broadway Musical” from Coastal Act Productions at the Newport Performing Arts Center this Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14.
Set in the mountainous kingdom of Arendelle, the story follows sisters Anna and Elsa, who grow up isolated inside their castle as Elsa struggles to control magical powers she keeps hidden from her younger sister. When Elsa is crowned queen, those powers spiral out of control, plunging the kingdom into an endless winter and sending Elsa into the mountains. Determined to bring her sister home, Anna sets off on a journey joined by rugged ice harvester, Kristoff, his loyal reindeer, Sven, and the cheerful snowman, Olaf.
Filled with humor, magic and a sweeping musical score, Frozen explores themes of sisterhood, acceptance and the meaning of true love. The stage adaptation features beloved songs from the Academy Award-winning animated film by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez along with new music written for the Broadway production.
“When the rights to ‘Frozen - the Broadway Musical’ became available just as we were selecting this year’s musical, I jumped on it right away,” said director Jody Hannah, creative director of Coastal Act Productions. “It’s a powerful score and showcases our local talent beautifully.”
“Audience feedback so far is overwhelmingly positive,” added Leslie Brown of Coastal Act Productions. “It’s a fast-paced production that leaves theatergoers spellbound.”
Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors and students with identification.
Friday’s performance begins at 7 pm, with shows at 2 pm and 7 pm Saturday at the Newport Performing Arts Center, located at 777 W Olive Street. For more information, go to coastarts.com or call 541-265-2787.
