Join us for a little Desert in Yachats
With music that blends the spirit of the California desert and the West Virginia countryside, Desert Hollow will perform a special Labor Day concert at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church this Monday, Sept. 1.
Members Xander Hitzig and Nicole Olney began their musical journey in Los Angeles, as cast mates in a jukebox country musical. The folk duet is now bow based in Maui, but their shared passion for songcraft has since taken them all over the world. The debut EP, "Thirsty" garnered attention and the duo were quickly featured on NPR Music’s Live Sessions, as well as given opportunities to collaborate in and out of the studio with the likes of Gregory Alan Isakov, Lukas Nelson, John Craigie and Lily Meola.
Hitzig is a multi-instrumentalist, seamlessly playing a variety of stringed bluegrass instruments including fiddle, tenor banjo and a mean lead guitar. Olney’s own instrumentation on guitar and five-string banjo provide a gentle, spacious rhythm. Her powerful lyricism and ethereal voice weave seamlessly into the rich, diverse soundscapes of their songs, while Hitzig’s voice carries the weight and clarity of traditional bluegrass music, raw and unadorned.
Monday’s show begins at 7 pm at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, located at 360 West 7th Street. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10 to $20. For more information, go to pollyplumb.org.
