Join the crowd for ‘Andrea Chénier’

Experience the sweep of love and revolution as the Metropolitan Opera’s “Andrea Chénier” streams live to the Newport Performing Arts Center this Saturday, Dec. 13.

The performance brings Umberto Giordano’s passionate tale of poetry, politics and sacrifice to the center’s big screen straight from New York.

Set against the violence of the French Revolution, the opera follows the doomed poet Andrea Chénier as he is swept into the chaos of the Reign of Terror. Tenor Piotr Beczała stars in the title role opposite soprano Sonya Yoncheva as the noblewoman Maddalena di Coigny. Baritone Igor Golovatenko completes the tragic triangle as Carlo Gérard, the revolutionary whose choices seal their fates.

Conductor Daniele Rustioni leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus in a performance known for its sweeping emotion and dramatic power.

The production is sung in Italian with English subtitles, with a runtime of approximately three hours and 10 minutes including two intermissions.
