It would be a crime to miss it
Plan your getaway as Piano Heist comes to Lincoln City
The Lincoln City Cultural Center will have the key to a fun evening when Piano Heist brings big laughs, lightning-fast song changes and audience-powered music to town this Saturday, Feb. 28.
Billed as a high-octane dueling piano experience, the show mixes virtuosic playing with comedy, live requests and interactive moments that turn the audience into part of the performance. From rock and pop to country favorites and classic hits, the performers pull from a seemingly endless song list to keep the energy moving.
With a grand piano front and center, the duo blends improvisation and musical showmanship into a spontaneous, family-friendly evening designed to keep crowds singing and clapping along.
“We can’t wait to see Piano Heist during their maiden voyage to the Oregon Coast,” said Programs Director Jason Corso. “Their show is part concert, part comedy show and part community sing-along. You never know what song is coming next, and that’s half the fun.”
The touring act features Canadian performers Nico Rhodes and Patrick Courtin.
Rhodes is a genre-jumping, multilingual musician who collaborates across artistic disciplines to explore music in as many styles as possible. Having grown up touring around the globe surrounded by artists and the world of theater, he is equally comfortable playing jazz, classical, funk and roots music, orchestrating symphonies, writing musicals and conducting choirs.
One of Canada’s most in-demand young arrangers and musical directors, he has 40 stage musicals to his credit. He has written more than 400 original compositions, four original musicals and arranged two symphonic pops concerts. He has been nominated for two Jessie Awards and five Ovation Awards and, in 2019, was honored with Nanaimo’s Emerging Cultural Leader Award. He composes for stage, screen and media, collaborates with multiple choirs, performs with several jazz trios and tours in a duo with his mother, renowned chanteuse Joëlle Rabu.
Courtin is first and foremost a pianist, as well as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, music director and teacher. Since his first professional engagement accompanying a choir at the age of 14, Courtin has worked continuously as a career musician.
Classically trained through the Royal Conservatory of Music, he completed Grade 10 by the age of 17 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies from Vancouver Island University. Since graduating, Courtin has directed musical theatre productions, performed in recording sessions, created music for film and television and toured throughout Canada, the United States and China. He is at home in a wide range of musical settings, having performed in professional ensembles spanning jazz and classical to rock and funk.
Whether you love Billy Joel, Taylor Swift, Elton John, classic rock anthems, or today’s chart-toppers, chances are Piano Heist can play it on the spot.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors and students and $20 for kids.
Saturday’s show begins at 7 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, located at 540 NE Hwy. 101. For more information, go to lincolncity-culturalcenter.org or call 541-994-9994.
