Go outside, get involved

Learn how to support coastal wildlife and connect with fellow nature enthusiasts when the Seven Capes Bird Alliance hosts a Volunteer Recognition and Recruitment event at Newport’s Hatfield Marine Science Center this Saturday, Feb. 28.

The gathering honors current volunteers while introducing new participants to opportunities in education, conservation and community science. Displays and informal conversations will highlight roles such as bird walk assistants, osprey nest watchers, education helpers, Marine Conservation Area stewards and Plover Patrol members.

After lunch, guests can take part in an introductory bird walk or osprey nest viewing to see volunteer work in action. Flexible schedules are available and participation is open to adults 18 and older.

Lunch is included and advance registration is requested.

Saturday’s event runs from 11 am to 2 pm in the Guin Library at Hatfield Marine Science Center, located at 2030 SE Marine Science Drive. For more information or to RSVP, go to sevencapes.org.
