Don’t be late!
The good times will roll when The Late Risers bring their New Orleans jazz sound to the Newport Performing Arts Center this Sunday, March 1.
Led by acclaimed trumpeter Sam Dechenne, the ensemble channels the spirit of Prohibition-era speakeasies, the sparkle of the Gatsby years and the brass-driven energy of a New Orleans Mardi Gras.
Since forming in 2014, the band has built a strong following on the East Coast with appearances at nightclubs, swing dances and festivals. The Newport stop offers a rare chance for West Coast audiences to catch the high-energy act live.
“The Late Risers don’t just play music; they create an atmosphere,” said Jason Holland, executive director of the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts. “It’s impossible to sit through a set without a smile on your face and your feet tapping along.”
The group’s classic lineup of trumpet, clarinet, banjo and tuba delivers traditional standards, original material and inventive jazz takes on familiar tunes.
Sunday’s concert begins at 2 pm in the David Ogden Stiers Theatre at the Newport Performing Arts Center, located at 777 W Olive Street. Tickets are $35. For more information, go to coastarts.org/events/laterisers or call 541-265-2787.
