Artists put up ‘Hope Rising’ in Newport
Explore themes of resilience and renewal at the Newport Visual Arts Center this March when the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the 2026 Member Show, “Hope Rising.”
Art may still be submitted for inclusion in the show, opening on Sunday, March 8, and running through May 3.
Now in its fourth year, the annual exhibition has become a cornerstone of the regional arts calendar, highlighting the breadth of talent within the council's membership.
This year’s theme, “Hope Rising,” serves as a creative call to action; participating artists are encouraged to incorporate the vibrant palettes of a coastal sunrise and themes of optimism and renewal into their work.
“The Member Show is a true reflection of the creative heartbeat of our coast,” said Chasse Davidson, director of the Newport Visual Arts Center. “By choosing ‘Hope Rising’ as our 2026 theme, we wanted to provide a platform for artists to share their light and vision with the community. The resulting exhibit is sure to be an eclectic, fresh and deeply personal collection of work that reminds us of the power of art to inspire.”
The inclusive show welcomes artists at all skill levels, from emerging creators to established professionals, working in media including painting, fiber, ceramics, photography, mixed media and collage.
Council members — and those wishing to join — can submit one original work for consideration on Sunday, March 1, from 1 to 4 pm or Monday, March 2, from 10 am to noon. Artists who are not yet OCCA members, or who need to renew or update their membership, can do so online or when dropping off their artwork.
Eligible pieces must be original, created within the past three years and not previously exhibited at the Newport Visual Arts Center. AI-generated work and reproductions are not eligible.
An opening reception is planned for from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, March 8, with music and light refreshments.
The Newport Visual Arts Center is located at 777 NW Beach Drive and is open from noon to 4 pm, Wednesday through Sunday. For more information, go to coastarts.com or call 541-265-2787.
