Development aims for work-life balance

The former Beaver School will open its doors once again this Saturday, Aug. 15, inviting generations of students, teachers and community members to revisit old memories while getting a first look at the site’s future.

"Flashback to School, Beaver School Stories" is co-presented by the Tillamook County Historical Society and the developers behind The Schoolyard Flats, a project that will transform the long-vacant school into a mixed-use community serving South Tillamook County.

The afternoon is designed as both a reunion and a look ahead. Former students, educators, families and neighbors are invited to share memories of the school, hear stories from others who walked its halls and learn about plans to breathe new life into the historic campus.

Following the presentations, visitors can explore the school during guided tours, enjoy a complimentary scoop of ice cream and spend time reconnecting with classmates and neighbors. Guests are even encouraged to revisit old routines by strolling the grounds or shooting a few baskets in the gym.

Plans for The Schoolyard Flats extend well beyond housing. The redevelopment will convert the former middle school into approximately 30 apartment homes intended for agricultural workers, families, seniors and others seeking affordable housing in South Tillamook County.

The vision also includes a Tillamook County Library branch, a community gymnasium, certified child care facility, commercial kitchen, maker spaces for local entrepreneurs and artisans and outdoor gathering areas designed to create a new community hub.

Saturday's event  runs from 2 to 4 pm at the former Beaver School, 19995 Blaine Road.
