Chinook Winds celebrates 31 years with Joe Nichols

Fireworks over the Pacific, a special glass float drop and a live performance by a country music star headline a weekend of festivities as Chinook Winds Casino Resort celebrates its 31st anniversary this Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 21.

Owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Chinook Winds has welcomed guests to Lincoln City since 1995.

Multi-platinum country music recording artist Joe Nichols will help kick off the festivities with a concert on Friday evening.

For more than two decades, Nichols has been one of country music's most reliable hitmakers, building a career that bridges traditional country roots and modern Nashville success.

Born and raised in Rogers, Arkansas, Nichols grew up immersed in classic country music. Influenced by artists such as George Jones, Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley, he developed a rich baritone voice and a deep appreciation for storytelling long before he ever stepped onto a major stage. After moving to Nashville in the 1990s, he spent years honing his craft before breaking through nationally with the 2002 hit "The Impossible," a heartfelt ballad that introduced audiences to his traditional sound and emotional delivery.

That success was followed by a string of chart-topping singles that helped establish Nichols as one of the defining voices of contemporary country music. Songs including "Brokenheartsville," "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," "Gimme That Girl," "Sunny and 75" and "Yeah" became radio staples and fan favorites, earning Nichols a reputation for balancing humor, romance and authenticity.

Throughout his career, Nichols has remained committed to a style that honors country music's roots while remaining accessible to modern audiences. His music combines traditional instrumentation and classic storytelling with contemporary production, allowing him to appeal to longtime country fans as well as newer listeners.

The results speak for themselves. Nichols has earned multiple Grammy nominations, a Country Music Association Award, an Academy of Country Music Award, a CMT Music Award and an Emmy Award. He has recorded six number one singles, 10 Top 10 hits and sold millions of albums worldwide. Today, his catalog has generated more than two billion streams, a testament to the lasting appeal of songs that continue to resonate with audiences.

Away from the spotlight, Nichols has been open about personal challenges, including his long journey to sobriety. His willingness to discuss those struggles has earned him admiration from fans who appreciate both his honesty and resilience.

More than 20 years after his breakthrough, Nichols continues to tour extensively and record new music, carrying forward a career built on strong songs, a distinctive voice and a genuine connection with country music traditions. Whether performing a heartfelt ballad or an upbeat crowd favorite, he remains one of the genre's most recognizable and enduring artists.

The celebration continues Saturday, June 20, with complimentary anniversary cupcakes served in the lobby beginning at 1 pm while supplies last.

Saturday evening concludes with the return of Chinook Winds' annual fireworks display, a tradition enjoyed by coastal residents and visitors for more than two decades. The show is scheduled to begin shortly after dark at roughly 10 pm.

Following the fireworks, head to the Chinook Winds Showroom for the free afterparty featuring DJ Metal. Guests must be 21 and over to attend. The party will begin at 10:30 pm and last until 1:30 am.

A special anniversary float drop in partnership with Lincoln City's Finders Keepers program will see volunteers hide commemorative glass floats on local beaches throughout the weekend, giving visitors a chance to discover a unique souvenir while exploring the coast.

Friday’s concert begins at 8 pm at 1777 NW 44th Street in Lincoln City. Tickets range from $80 to $110. For more information, go to chinookwindscasino.com or call 888-244-6665.
