Colúr us glad for this gig

Immerse yourself into Irish music and dance when Colúr visits the Lincoln City Cultural Center on Monday, July 6, as part of the group's West Coast tour.

Named for the Irish word for "pigeon," Colúr features sean-nós dancer Maldon Meehan, multi-instrumentalist Autumn Rhodes and musician Ben Roberts. Together, the trio blends traditional Irish and Appalachian music with storytelling, harmony singing and percussive dance.

The day begins with a set dancing workshop led by Meehan. Set dancing is a traditional form of Irish social dancing performed in groups and is accessible to beginners. No partner or previous experience is required.

The evening program opens with a ceílí, a traditional Irish social dance gathering, followed by a concert showcasing tunes and songs from Ireland and America. Along the way, audiences will hear stories woven through centuries of musical tradition while experiencing the close connection between music and dance.

Following the concert, local musicians will join the performers for a traditional Irish session. Guests who play Irish music on traditional session instruments are welcome to participate, while others are invited to stay and listen.

Monday's events begin with a set dancing workshop from 3:30 to 5 pm, followed by a ceílí from 6 to 7 pm and a concert and session beginning at 7 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, located at 540 NE Hwy. 101. Suggested donations are $20 for the workshop, $5 for the ceílí and $20 for the concert and session. For more information, go to lincolncity-culturalcenter.org.
