Brace for ‘Hurricane Hoku’

A whirlwind mix of ballet, Irish dance, musical theater and pop music will take the stage at the Lincoln City Cultural Center this Saturday, May 16, when young performer Hoku LaSoya presents “Hurricane Hoku,” a one-woman showcase blending live performance with video storytelling.

The Lincoln City dancer’s new production follows the success of her first self-produced show, “Volcano of Dance,” which nearly sold out two years ago. Now 11 years old, Hoku returns with an expanded range of styles and performances shaped by years of training and competition.

A ballet student since the age of three, Hoku has appeared in more than 40 ballet performances while also studying Irish dance, jazz and musical theater. In recent years, she has begun competing in Irish dance competitions, earning medals and trophies, while her original choreography has collected awards at national competitions.

The show will feature routines set to music ranging from Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga to selections inspired by “Hamilton,” alongside ballet and Irish dance performances. Audiences can also expect a surprise talent reveal during the evening.

Saturday’s performance begins at 7 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, located at 540 NE Highway 101 in Lincoln City. The show runs about one hour and 40 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission with snacks for sale benefiting the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. Reserved seating tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for guests younger than 18. For more information, go to lincolncity-culturalcenter.org.
