Bling-k and you’ll miss it
Hunt for sparkling treasures and help fight hunger when Central Coast Assembly Church in Newport hosts Food Share of Lincoln County’s 17th annual Be Jeweled jewelry sale this Saturday, May 9.
The popular fund-raiser features more than 2,000 donated pieces of pre-loved jewelry spanning every era and style. Shoppers can browse vintage pins, earrings, pendants, sterling silver necklaces, bangles, semi-precious stone pieces and select gold and silver items. Handmade artisan jewelry created especially for the sale will also be available.
Crafters will find plenty to explore as well, with a dedicated room of beads, components and materials for creating original designs. This year’s event includes two large bead donations, making it an especially strong year for makers and hobbyists.
All proceeds benefit Food Share of Lincoln County, which works to eliminate hunger through a network of food pantries, meal sites, senior outreach and youth programs throughout the county.
This year’s sale is dedicated to the late Pati D’Eliseo, who died last fall. Pati worked at Food Share for more than 10 years and was the driving force behind Be Jeweled. A trained chef, she shared her knowledge enthusiastically, from meal preparation to nutrition education, in ways that inspired and empowered others. Her ability to connect with people, whether in the kitchen or the classroom, reflected her deep belief that food is not only nourishment but also a source of dignity, joy and community. She loved jewelry and helped make Be Jeweled what it is today, the biggest fund-raiser for Food Share of Lincoln County.
“There’s no other event like this on the coast,” said Executive Director Nancy Mitchell. “It’s a great way to help Food Share by donating your pre-loved jewelry then shopping the sale for treasures new to you.”
Saturday’s Be Jeweled sale takes place at Central Coast Assembly Church, located at 236 NE 6th Street in Newport. Doors open from 10 am to 1 pm, then close for a volunteer break before reopening from 2 to 4 pm for a half-price sale (excluding gold).
