Actors: refined. Picture: defined.

Experience a bold classic of British theater when National Theatre Live screens “Mrs. Warren’s Profession,” at the Newport Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, March 11.

Captured in high definition from the London stage, the production stars five-time Olivier Award-winner Imelda Staunton alongside her real-life daughter Bessie Carter, portraying mother and daughter.

Directed by Dominic Cooke, the Bernard Shaw drama explores tensions between morality and independence through the story of Vivie Warren, a young woman determined to forge a legal career in a male-dominated world. Her ambitions are shaken when she discovers the true source of her mother’s fortune — a business built within the very patriarchal system Vivie hopes to transcend.

The Alice Silverman Theatre’s Ultra HD projection and Meyer Constellation sound system bring the stage production to the screen with cinematic clarity.

Wednesday’s screening begins at 7 pm at the Newport Performing Arts Center, located at 777 W Olive Street. Tickets range from $16 to $22. For more information, go to coastarts.org or call 541-265-2787.
