You couldn’t bear to miss this
For one weekend this fall, Lincoln City’s famously colorful skies will shift a little farther north when the Lincoln City Fall Kite Festival returns from Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
This year’s festival has temporarily relocated from its traditional home at D River Wayside to Chinook Winds Casino Resort while construction continues on the new Lincoln City Welcome Center.
The weekend begins on Friday evening with the Night Fly, when illuminated kites light up the sky over the beach in a magical, family-friendly display.
Pixie Fest carnival games will add to the festivities, with donations benefiting the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln City.
Saturday and Sunday bring the festival’s familiar mix of giant show kites, professional fliers and hands-on activities. Featured fliers will perform throughout both days, while the Big Kite Field will be filled with colorful creations that can sometimes seem more like airborne sculptures than kites.
Guests can make their own during a free kite-making workshop, with donations benefiting Family Promise of Lincoln County, or stroll through the Wind Garden and check out the Art Kite Display.
One of the weekend’s biggest spectacles will be the Mega Fly, bringing all the participating fliers onto the field together. Tours of the Big Kite Field will offer another perspective on the enormous creations overhead, and Sunday will include a Kite Flier Memorial.
Pixie Fest carnival games will continue throughout Saturday and Sunday.
The move to Chinook Winds will also bring some changes for festival parking. Designated parking will be available around Chinook Winds Casino Resort, at 1st Choice Fresh Market and on the top level of the Lincoln City Outlets parking structure. Free shuttles will run between the parking areas and festival throughout the weekend.
Friday’s Night Fly runs from 7 to 9 pm, with shuttle service from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday’s festival runs from 10 am to 4 pm, with shuttle service from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Chinook Winds Casino Resort is located 1t 1777 NW 44th Street.
