Up Nest

Did you know that Lincoln City has more osprey nests per capita than any other city in Oregon? Celebrate the Oregon state raptor with the Seven Capes Bird Alliance at the inaugural Lincoln City Osprey Day this Friday, July 11.

Activities throughout the day will raise awareness of this impressive bird that migrates to the Oregon Coast every spring to nest and rear its chicks before returning to points south in the fall. Take a walk, observe a nest and party with other bird fans at these scheduled activities:

Bird Walk, Nesika City Park

Visit a nesting osprey pair and look for songbirds in the woods and wetlands.

The group will meet at 9 am at SE 3rd Street and Mast Avenue.

Osprey Nest Observations, various locations

Volunteers from the Osprey Watch team will be observing some of the Lincoln City nests with scopes from 10 am to noon.

Osprey Day Festival, Lincoln City Cultural Center

At noon, Mayor Susan Wahlke will proclaim Lincoln City Osprey Day, followed by a Chintimini Wildlife Center live raptor presentation at 12:15 pm, the “My Life as an Osprey” family story time at 1:30 pm and a Your Song, My Song musical performance at 2:30 pm. Children’s art activities, an osprey exhibit, wingspan photo booth, free snacks and door prize pulls will continue throughout the day. The event runs from 11:30 am to 4 pm.

All Seven Capes Bird Alliance walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. The Lincoln City Cultural Center is located at 540 NE Hwy. 101. For more information and osprey nest observation locations, go to sevencapes.org.
