Touch a Truck
What is it about vehicles that are extra big and have bright lights or loud horns that turns many kids on and even turns some adults into kids?
Experience the joyful phenomenon at the next annual Touch-a-Truck event at the Newport Performing Arts Center this Friday, June 27.
Touch-a-Truck allows truck enthusiasts big and small to explore and learn about the vehicles and the professionals who operate them. Explore a fleet of vehicles from the City of Newport, including police cruisers, firetrucks and other vehicles used for construction and maintenance.
Other partners filling the center’s parking lot will include Thompson’s Sanitary Service, Table Mountain Forestry, Rowley’s Towing, Central Lincoln PUD, Oregon State Parks, Oregon State Police, First Student buses, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, PAC West Ambulance, 811 Underground and the Oregon Coast Art Bus.
Newport Police will also hand out free bike helmets for kids.
“This is always one of our most fun events for the community and there will be plenty of
family-friendly activities included,” said event organizer Jenni Remillard. “Zeek’s
Shaved Ice will have some sweet treats available, and we are working to bring in another
food truck to round out this ultimate outdoor experience.”
Most groups will let kids get a chance to get inside the vehicles and try out the horns or sirens. If your little ones are not a fan of the loud noises, the last half hour of the event will be siren and horn free.
The event runs from 3 to 5:30 pm at the Newport Performing Arts Center parking lot, located at 777 W Olive Street. For more information, go to newportoregon.gov.
