Throw yourself into 2026
Like to start the new year by getting outside and getting a good workout? Take a nice hike at a beautiful spot or go full speed at a race that ends in the Pacific Ocean, if you dare.
Thursday, Jan. 1
First Day Hike, Sitka Sedge State Natural Area
Join a park ranger to ring in the New Year on the trails at Sitka Sedge. Enjoy the views of the Sandlake Estuary and the mixed upland dune environment leading up to the ocean shore. Park rangers will be available to assist with questions about the history, plants and wildlife along the way.
The group will meet at noon in the Sitka Sedge State Natural Area parking lot, just north of Pacific City. For more information, call 503-812-2403.
Saturday, Jan. 3
Newport Resolution Run and Plunge, South Beach State Park
Participants can choose from a half marathon, 10K or 5K, with an optional ocean plunge at the finish line.
Warm up after your plunge with hot coffee and cocoa and heated changing tents and warming stations.
South Beach State Park offers a dramatic coastal setting for the event, with ocean views, forested trails and wide beaches that make the Resolution Run a favorite for both seasoned runners and first-time participants.
Race-day packet pickup opens at 8 am, with races beginning around 9 am. Final start times will be confirmed during race week based on ocean and weather conditions, with updates shared by email and online.
South Beach State Park is located south of Newport. For more information and registration, go to ardoradventures.com.
