After months of improvising to offer virtual recreation options, the Lincoln City Community Center is welcoming the community back, IRL.

Since March, Lincoln City Parks and Recreation has supported the community with virtual education and activities that promote wellness of mind and body for all ages. Though the virtual lineup is still going strong, including free online fitness classes, dance parties, story time, cooking classes, meditation, trail hikes and more, staff are thrilled to have patrons back in the building.

Lincoln County’s move into Phase 2 allowed the center to reopen with modified hours as of Monday, Oct. 5. Visitors are asked to stay home if ill and to remain six feet apart from people not in their household. There will be no group gatherings of more than 50 people.

Open times are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 8 pm, and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. Patrons will be pre-screened at the front entrance, and all patrons must wear a mask indoors (except while swimming).

Staff will be sanitizing every 15 minutes throughout the center.

Reservations are recommended for one-hour time slots to utilize the pool, walking track, cardio and weight rooms. Drop-ins will be allowed based on availability. To reserve a time slot, go to www.lincolncity.org/parksandrec or call 541-994-2131. Updates on all of LCP&R activities and reopening phases are posted on the Lincoln City Parks and Recreation Facebook page.

Newport re-opening

The Newport Recreation Center, Newport Aquatic Center and all playgrounds and sports facilities reopened on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Recreation and aquatic center use will be by reservation only.

Organized sports practices on sports fields will be scheduled after meeting with city staff; sports games and meets will resume at a date yet to be determined.

The Newport 60+ Activity Center will remain closed.
