Hoffman Gallery

While the sun sparkles outside, the walls of the Hoffman Gallery in Manzanita will shine with new works by Robin Kerr, Jennifer Rabin and Steven Miller through Saturday, July 26, with an opening reception happening from 3 to 5 pm this Saturday, July 5.

Kerr’s “Flowers in Your Hair” showcases a series of abstracted, imaginary still-lifes. Drawing on the accessibility and enduring appeal of still-life across cultures, she reinvents the genre with playful, colorful interpretations. Her patterns reflect decorative influences from her travels, and her palette is inspired by the landscapes and unpredictable weather of both New Zealand, where she was born, and the Pacific Northwest, where she lives now. Formerly working in illustration and public health, she shifted to full-time fine art in 2021. Her work – primarily acrylic, wax pastel and ink on birch panels – features abstracted still-lifes and has been shown in juried exhibitions across the Pacific Northwest.

In “Home,” Rabin transforms discarded objects into imagined places of refuge. Drawing on natural fibers and needle felting techniques, her sculptural works reimagine broken or forgotten items as protective structures – cocoons and nests – for healing and resilience. These materials mirror her lived experience of illness, estrangement and the search for safety. Rabin is a Portland-based mixed-media sculptor whose work centers on reclamation and resilience.

Steven Miller – Outside In

Miller’s “Outside In” features ink on paper monotypes inspired by the Oregon Coast. Merging geometric forms with gradients and texture, his work captures the ever-shifting tension between structure and flow. The coastal color palette – orange, green, blue and yellow – evokes a walk on Manzanita Beach and invites viewers into spaces of pause, memory and transformation. A self-taught artist living in Manzanita, Miller is influenced by the dualities of the Oregon Coast: chaos and calm, erosion and order. His recent work explores movement, impermanence and place.

The Hoffman Gallery is located at 594 Laneda Avenue in Manzanita and is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 pm. For more information go to hoffmanarts.org or call 503-368-3846.
