Have we Met?

For two decades, some of the world’s greatest opera singers have been making the journey from the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York to movie screens around the globe — without ever leaving Manhattan.

Help celebrate that milestone at a special screening of “Twenty Years of the Met in Cinemas” at the Newport Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Hosted by acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming, the anniversary presentation reaches into the Met’s archives to revisit highlights from the more than 185 performances that have been broadcast to cinemas since the groundbreaking Live in HD series began.

Originally recorded live, the program brings together memorable moments featuring some of opera’s most celebrated performers from the past two decades.

The lineup includes Lise Davidsen, Natalie Dessay, Joyce DiDonato and Fleming herself, among many others.

The presentation also marks the beginning of the Opera Live in HD season, which will bring nine events to Newport between September and June.

Season subscriptions for all nine events range from $181 to $209. Subscribers can also add three special encore performances, “The Magic Flute,” “Carmen” and “Tosca” for $19 each.

Individual tickets for “Twenty Years of the Met in Cinemas” range from $14 to $30, with discounts available for students and seniors.
