Great to be back at the coast

Explore identity, belonging and the Oregon Coast outdoors when View the Future and Yachatians for Social Justice host a screening of “What We Lost Along the Way” at the Yachats Commons this Sunday, April 26.

The award-winning short documentary follows filmmaker Devin Boss and two close friends on a journey between Yachats, Newport and Florence, using candid conversations and coastal landscapes to examine friendship, identity and connection to nature.

Through striking imagery and personal storytelling, the film asks who feels welcome in outdoor spaces while exploring the emotional and cultural bonds people form with the natural world.

Boss is founder of the Portland-based production company North East Productions. The film has earned international recognition, including a Best Shorts Award at the global Best Shorts Competition, along with praise at festivals including the Portland Film Festival.

Following the screening, guests will have the opportunity to hear directly from Boss during a discussion about the inspiration behind the project, the filmmaking process and how storytelling can broaden perspectives about access, representation and belonging in the outdoors.

The event is part of View the Future’s continuing series focused on the cultural, environmental and community connections that shape the Oregon Coast.

Sunday’s program begins at 2 pm at the Yachats Commons, located at 441 Hwy. 101 N. For more information, go to viewthefuture.org.
