Birding with knoll limits

The Oregon Coast has numerous hiking trails with alluring views of the ocean and a unique array of bird breeds. The Audubon Society of Lincoln City will lead two bird walks to highlight these authentic coastal experiences this Friday and Saturday, June 9 and 10.

Friday, June 9: The Knoll Open Space

The 2.5-mile hike through the forest to The Knoll north of Lincoln City will reward hikers with opportunities for bird watching and sweeping ocean views at the top. This hike contains uneven ground and elevation so hiking boots and sticks are recommended.

The group will meet at 9 am at the cul-de-sac at the north end of NE Devils Lake Boulevard.

Saturday, June 10: Ona Beach & Beavercreek State Recreational Area

A walk through the woods and along the creek to the beach will give participants opportunities to look for nesting birds, including warblers and swallows, resident wading birds and songbirds. If time permits, the group will drive to Beavercreek for more bird watching action.

The group will meet at 9 am at the Ona Beach parking area, six miles south of Newport.

All the group’s bird walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy, and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. For more information, go to lincolncityaudubon.org.
