Barbershop group makes the cut
The Coastal-Aires Barbershop Chorus is inviting the community to a musical Class Reunion at the First Presbyterian Church of Newport this Saturday, Sept. 20.
The chorus first stepped on stage at the Newport Performing Arts Center on March 23, 1996, as an officially chartered chorus of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society.
The group’s show-opening song, “Look Out World,” set the stage and let the audience know that they had arrived and were ready to sing.
Saturday’s reunion concert will feature a silent auction of gift baskets featuring local artisans and businesses, as well as Beatles memorabilia, African art and other collectibles.
Saturday’s performance begins at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Newport, located at 227 NE 12th Street. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10. For more information, go to coastalaires.wordpress.com.
