Art that makes the grade
Check out the next generation of local talent when the Newport Visual Arts Center opens the 3rd Annual Lincoln County High School Art Show this Friday, May 8.
The exhibit fills the Runyan Gallery with original work by students from high schools across Lincoln County. Visitors will see paintings, drawings, woodworking, murals, photography and graphic design created by young artists from throughout the county.
The annual showcase gives students the opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery setting while sharing their creativity with the wider community. Last year’s exhibition featured 117 works of art and 22 awards selected by six professional jurors.
“We support the personal and creative growth of students by celebrating their work across all mediums and at every stage of their high school development,” said Newport Visual Arts Center Director Chasse Davidson. “We provide space for student work to be celebrated and enjoyed, in a showcase that honors the process of creation and the personal growth that comes from exploration of the visual arts.”
Friday’s opening reception runs from 6 to 8 pm at the Newport Visual Arts Center, located at 777 NW Beach Drive. The evening includes light refreshments, music and an awards ceremony. The exhibit remains on display through June 7. For more information, go to coastarts.org.
