A-choir some new holiday favorites

"A Song of Joy" is being presented by the Community Christmas Choir of Lincoln City on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11. The event has been sponsored by Congregational Church of Lincoln City for more than 40 years.

“This is a community choir,” Rev. Phyllis M. Thompson said. “It’s made up of members of the church, but also other people from the community.”

The concert is filled with songs of the season, including many traditional carols.

“We’re really trying to sing some of the songs we all love at Christmas,” Thompson said. “We want to create memories for this season, to warm people’s hearts and hopefully keep that feeling going all year long.”

Long time-radio personality and beloved Lincoln City local Roger Robertson will narrate while Thompson conducts.

“I’m an experienced musician and have been doing this for many years,” she said. “This is a choir performance, but we will include a sing-a-long.”

There is no admission fee, but guests can help create the Christmas feeling by arriving with a food or cash donation for the Lincoln City Food Bank.

“I just want folks to know that this is not a classical concert,” Thompson said. “It’s a loved song concert of all the songs we associate with Christmas.”

The music begins at 3 pm on both days. The Congregational Church of Lincoln City is located behind the former Kenny’s IGA North at NW 25th Street
