Have you heard of Yachats? Do you know how to pronounce Yachats? Are you going to Yachats for the Fourth of July? Well, La De Da. Yes, it’s the 15th probably annual La De Da Parade, sponsored by the Yachats Area Chamber of Commerce and commencing, as tradition dictates, at noon on July 4. Park yourself on the scenic Ocean View or Beach drive, and enjoy the non-motorized entries, including the umbrella drill team and lots of four-legged friends. There are a few rules, according to the official web site. It’s open to all ages except 39. (Yes, TODAY publisher Dave Price is consulting with an attorney about that restriction. As if a looming mid-life crisis wasn’t tough enough – now this!) All pets must be caged or leashed, and cleaned up after. And no motorized vehicles are allowed, except for the ones that carry the City Council of Yachats. Power does come with privileges, after all. Looking for all day fun? The Yachats Ladies Club will be hosting its 10th annual Pie & Ice Cream Social at the Yachats Commons, W. Fourth and Hwy. 101. The sale will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until the “river of pie” runs dry. The Yachats Ladies Club is famous for the homemade pies that the ladies bake. This year, in celebration of the State of Oregon’s 150th Birthday, the ladies of the club decided to present 150 homemade pies at the annual social. The event is being held inside the Yachats Commons, which has the only room big enough to view the “river of pie” they plan to bring. The selection will include several types of apple, cherry, blueberry, boysenberry, pumpkin, blackberry, raisin, pineapple, chocolate truffle, coconut custard, peanut butter, banana cream, Butterfinger, cranberry nut, rhubarb, pecan, peach, key lime, coconut cream and more. Clearly, if you have a favorite, you’d better get there early. Each slice is a generous sixth of the pie, and is priced at $3. Scoops of ice cream will be 50 cents extra. Proceeds will go to the club, now in its 82nd year. For more information, contact president Sandy Dunn at 541-547-3205. Duck, recover Around 2 p.m., the crowds will gather for the fourth annual Duck for Kids Race at the Yachats State Scenic Area, near the Hwy. 101 bridge. Supporters of the Yachats Youth and Families Activities Program will be selling rubber ducks ($5 each or three for $10) and, at 2:30 p.m., they’ll release 1,200 of them into the river. The winner will receive a duckload of fantastic prizes. For details, call 541-547-4599. “Downtown” Yachats will offer plenty of diversions through the afternoon. At the corner of Third and Hwy. 101, at Shirley’s and Joe’s Cafe, the Waldport Lions will be selling sausages with all the fixings. On W. Second Street, the Yachats Volunteer Fire Department will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. Raindogs, A People Store, will be throwing their ninth anniversary Party for the Pups, a benefit for the Central Coast Humane Society. There will be live music at The Landmark Lounge, The Drift Inn, The Green Salmon Coffee House and The Adobe Resort. The fireworks will be launched at dusk over Yachats Bay.
