Day camps kids will dig

Spaces are still available in a range of kids’ day camps offered by Tillamook County 4-H this summer, with tropics ranging from gardening and babysitting to computer-aided design.

Kids who have completed fourth grade and above are invited to sign up for “Stickers and Shirts! Computer Aided Design,” a course teaching the processes for creating high-quality stickers and vinyl-transfer apparel. Sessions will run from 9 am to noon Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22.

All students will leave with a custom sticker and t-shirt, and are invited to bring a USB drive to save their designs.

In “Dishing Up the Dirt” kids will get to have fun planting a veggie container, building a terrarium, doing garden crafts and cooking foods from the garden. The camp, aimed at kids who have completed second grade or above, runs from Tuesday, June 19, through Friday, June 22, with sessions from 1 to 5 pm each day.

“Babysitter Training” will run from Monday, June 25, to Friday, June 29, offering kids who have completed fourth grade and above training in feeding young children, handling emergencies and more. Sessions run from 9 to 11:30 am each day except Thursday, June 28, when participants will study First Aid and CPR from 9 am to 3 pm.

Each camp costs $45 per person, including all supplies. To register, go to http://bit.ly/Tillamook4-H.

Pre-registration is encouraged as each camp has limited enrollment and those with low enrollment one week prior to the starting date might be canceled.

Cooking Matters

This summer’s camps also include a free option, “Cooking Matters for Teens,” which aims to teach kids how to make healthy food choices and prepare healthy meals and snacks for themselves, their families and their friends.

The camp, funded through SNAP-Ed and Oregon Food Bank, runs from Tuesday, June 26, to Friday, June 29, with sessions from 1 to 4 pm.
