Portland authors Casey Bush and Leanne Grabel will join Oregon Coast writer Carla Perry for “Gold Shoes & Hippocampus,” a night of poetry in Newport this Saturday, June 16.
Casey Bush is a longtime Portland poet whose eighth book of poetry, “Student of the Hippocampus,” was published in 2017. He is a senior editor of The Bear Deluxe Magazine, which explores environmental issues through the literary and graphic arts.
Leanne Grabel is a semi-retired special ed teacher, poet, performer and illustrator, whose new book of graphic prose poems, “Gold Shoes,” was published in spring 2018. Grabel and her husband Steve Sander are the founders of Café Lena, Portland’s legendary poetry café of the 1990s.
Carla Perry was the founder and director of Writers On The Edge and the Nye Beach Writers’ Series. Her novel, “Riva Beside Me,” was adapted into a full stage play that debuted at the Newport Performing Arts Center in 2017. She is a poet, civic activist and owner of Dancing Moon Press.
The readings will be followed by an open mic. Signed copies of the authors’ new books will also be available for purchase
“Gold Shoes & Hippocampus” will run from 7 to 9 pm at the Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Drive. A $5 suggested donation is requested at the door.
