An event for the pages

Volunteers are already stacking the shelves for the annual North Tillamook Library book sale, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27, in Manzanita.

This Memorial Day tradition features thousands of donated books and has become so big in recent years that it spreads across two locations: The Hoffman Center for the Arts at 549 Laneda Avenue, and Pine Grove Community House three blocks away at 225 Laneda Avenue.

“It’s a yearlong effort sorting and categorizing donated books,” said Ann Morgan, book sale coordinator and a Library Friend for nearly 25 years. “We always have a great selection of books to choose from.”

The sale begins on Friday May 26, with a sneak peak at the offerings from 5 to 7 pm for Friends of the Library. If you are not a member, have no fears — you can join on the night for $10, or $15 for a family. The sale opens to the general public from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 27.

The books at the Hoffman Center are non-fiction and include cookbooks, biographies, humor, nature, gardening, history, religion, self-help, reference, general interest and coffee table books. Just down the street, the Pine Grove Community House offers fiction of all kinds — novels, mysteries, science fiction, poetry, romances and children’s books.

The sale is a major fundraiser for the North Tillamook County Friends, with proceeds going toward maintenance of the North Tillamook Library in Manzanita.
