Scientists pool knowledge with bioblitz

Published on July 10, 2018 3:04PM

Budding citizen scientists are invited to help researchers build their understanding of coastal ecology in a bioblitz event scheduled for Monday, July 16, near Manzanita.

located just north of Manzanita, Neah-Kah-Nie Beach connects with Cape Falcon Marine Reserve and the Lower Nehalem Community Trust’s Peregrine Point property, a protected, lush green forest rising from the sand and extending the protected lands of Oswald West State Park.

From 9 to 11 am, Lower Nehalem Watershed Council, Lower Nehalem Community Trust, Friends of Cape Falcon Marine Reserve and the Oregon Coast Aquarium will lead an educational walk through the area, exploring the connections between headwaters and the ocean. A morning low tide will leave tide pools full of sea life waiting to be discovered. The group will then take part in a fun, intertidal bioblitz, an intensive survey aimed at giving a snapshot of biodiversity.

To register, go to www.explorenaturetillamookcoast.com or contact the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve at 541-231-8041 or capefalconmr@gmail.com.
