Sounds like summer

Published on May 8, 2018 2:18PM

The sounds of summer return to Newport’s Nye Beach neighborhood this Saturday, May 12, as the Nye Beach Second Saturday Summer Celebration kicks of its eighth year of musical diversity and community togetherness.

Described as part street performance, part variety show and part neighborhood block party, the event will run from noon to 3 pm rain or shine and continues monthly through September on the large outdoor theater stage in the Courtyard at Cafe Mundo, 209 NW Coast Street.

Returning musical hosts the Thunder & Lightness Ensemble and the Ocean Thunder Drummers provide high-energy multicultural traditional and indigenous World Beat rhythms. The drums of Chandler Davis and the soft harmonies of Terry Filer on the Native American flutes are complemented by special musical guests, frequently including well-known local musicians by invitation.

The free performances are family-friendly and all ages are welcome. Light percussion toys are provided to encourage audience participation, and dancers are invited to join the performers onstage.

For more information or to arrange to sit in, contact Chandler Davis at 541-272-4615 or chandler@chandlerdavis.com.
