In any poll of the best way to spend a summer day on the Oregon Coast, the beach, a cold beer and some crispy bacon are likely to be among the top finishers.

So, top marks to Lincoln City’s Chinook Winds Casino Resort for bringing all three together at the Beach, Bacon and Brewfest, which returns for its third year this Saturday, July 15.

Held on the casino’s oceanfront lot, the fun-filled event will see charity cooking teams serving up bacon bites for guests to enjoy, with all proceeds from bacon bit sales going straight to the good causes.

Using meat provided by Sunnyvalley Bacon, the charity teams will be competing to win votes from the tasting public, who can buy bacon bit tickets at a dollar apiece to sample the delectable creations.

Among the competitors is Family Promise of Lincoln City, which helps homeless families get back on their feet and find stable accomodation.

As its main entry, the group will be presenting a four-week cured bacon chorizo wrapped around four-week cured pork belly, served with stout mustard and sea bean salad. And, in the spirit of truly bringing bacon and brews together, the group will also be pouring a sea-salted bacon cream beer-float.

The Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce will also have a team at the event, giving guests the choice of Cuban grilled sandwiches; a guava and bacon bite; grilled, bacon-wrapped jalapeños; and bacon-wrapped dates.

In addition to the bacon recipe competition there will be food vendors selling a variety of menu items.

And more than 20 breweries from all over Oregon and beyond will be on hand to serve up tastes of beer and cider, with local favorites Rusty Truck Brewing of Lincoln City and Pelican Brewing of Pacific City joined by Salem’s Gilgamish Brewing, Backwoods Brewing Company of Carson, Washington, and more.

Portland’s Ground Breaker Brewing will be pouring tastes of its gluten-free range of beers while

Forbidden Fruit Ciderhouse of Corvallis will have some suitably summery offerings on tap.

Throughout the afternoon, the stage will be buzzing with live music, starting with a performance from blues star Ty Curtis from noon to 1:30 pm. The Rock N Roll Cowboys will take over from 2 to 3:30 pm, followed by a closing set of bombastic rock from the Mike Branch Band from 4 to 5:30 pm.

The event runs from noon to 6 pm at 1777 NW 44th Street.

Tickets are $25 apiece and include, beer tastings, live music and $5 in free slot play. To buy tickets, drop by the Chinook Winds Casino Resort Box Office or go to www.chinookwindscasino.com.
