If last Friday’s release of the latest National Climate Assessment left you disheartened about the future of the planet, be sure to keep some time free on Thursday, Dec. 6, to hear a more hopeful perspective.

Author Mary DeMocker will visit Newport to present “Why We Can Still Build a Thriving Future — and 3 Easy Ways You Can Help.”

This uplifting talk focuses on the power of keeping up hope and easy things that everyone can do to make a difference. DeMocker promises guests will leave with at least three action ideas that fit into even the busiest life.

DeMocker is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient and winner of the 2008 Kay Snow Award for non-fiction, as well as the co-founder of 350.org Eugene.

Her new book, “The Parents’ Guide to Climate Revolution,” has been called “an essential resource” by Sierra Magazine, featured on Yale Climate Connections and recommended in a New York Times article.

The free presentation runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, 2030 SE Marine Science Drive.
