A pair of historical presentations will give walkers the chance to dive into the local lore of Netarts Bay this weekend and next.

This Saturday, Nov. 3, local historian John Andersen will present “Stories of Netarts Past,” recounting tales of early settler activities including stories about the Lost Netarts Gold Mine, how Netarts got its name, the Tillamook Indian War, Netarts’ role in building the Morning Star, and Netarts’ first murder victim.

The presentation will run from 10 am to noon. Register at Eventbrite.com.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, Park Ranger Travis Korbe of Oregon State Parks will present “History Between the Capes,” an overview of local lore from Cape Lookout to Cape Meares. The first half will focus on The Cape Meares Lighthouse, while the second explores the history of Oceanside to Cape Lookout including Three Arch Rocks and the B-17 crash on Cape Lookout in 1943. The presentation will run from 10 am to 1 pm, and Korbe will offer a private tour of the Cape Meares Lighthouse after the talk. Register at Eventbrite.com.

Both events are organized by Friends of Netarts Bay, a local non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining the Netarts Bay area through education and stewardship. Tax-exempt donations are encouraged, but not required.
