US world championship swimmer Sarah Gibson will visit Lincoln City on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 27 and 28, teaching “Beastmode Butterfly and Breaststroke” as part of the Fitter and Faster Swim Tour.
Gibson, who graduated from Texas A&M this spring, was a 15-time All-American and won five Southeastern Conference titles during her career, competing in the butterfly and freestyle races as an individual and with all of the Aggies’ relays. She was named the Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Meet and earned the Commissioner’s Trophy for high-point honors in 2017, helping Texas A&M to its second consecutive Southeastern Conference crown. She went on to play a key role in leading the Aggies to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the best showing in program history.
Gibson is a member of the US National Team and competed in the 2017 FINA World Championships this summer in Budapest. She was a member of the gold medal 400 medley relay and silver medal 200 medley relay at the 2016 FINA World Championships. She was the school record holder in the 200 free and 100 butterfly, and with the 400 and 800 free relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays.
To top it off, Gibson graduated with a 4.0 in biomedical engineering and was recently named as the 2016-17 CoSIDA Division I Academic All-American of the Year, the highest national honor for an NCAA scholar athlete.
Gibson is training with Tokyo 2020 in her sights, and is a strong contender to make the 2020 Olympic Team.
