Fareed brings the Funk

Published on June 12, 2018 2:37PM

Guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque will visit Manzanita on Monday, June 18, for a performance with his band the Funk Brothers at the San Dune Pub.

Steeped in classical and jazz traditions, Haque boasts a command of the guitar and different musical styles that infuse his musical ventures with tradition and fearless innovation.

In 2009, he was voted Best World Guitarist by a readers’ poll in Guitar Player Magazine. His acclaimed 2009 release “Flat Planet” was twice ranked at number one on the World Jazz Radio charts.

Since 2011, Haque has returned to his first loves, jazz guitar and classical guitar, busily performing and recording with his trio featuring legendary B3 virtuoso Tony Monaco; his own trio and jazz quartet; and his larger world music group, the Flat Earth Ensemble.

He continues to tour and record extensively as well as documenting his unique teaching methods in a series of best-selling interactive video courses.

Monday’s performance, presented by the Manzanita Music Festival and San Dune Pub, will begin at 7 pm, with admission by suggested donation of $15.

Proceeds will help the Manzanita Music Festival scholarship fund provide instruments to kids that cannot afford to purchase them.

The San Dune Pub is located at 127 Laneda Avenue.
