The 13th season of The Met: Live in HD, will continue this Saturday, Nov. 10, with a screening of “Marnie,” the second new opera created for the Metropolitan Opera by composer Nico Muhly.
Conducted by Robert Spano, this gripping re-imagining of Winston Graham’s novel is set in 1959 and tells the story of a beautiful, mysterious young woman who assumes multiple identities.
Director Michael Mayer and his creative team have devised a fast-moving, cinematic world for this exhilarating story of denial and deceit, which also inspired a film by Alfred Hitchcock. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings the enigmatic Marnie, and baritone Christopher Maltman is the man who pursues her — with disastrous results.
Saturday’s screening, hosted locally by Kay Moxness, starts at 10 am at the Newport Performing Arts Center, 777 W. Olive Street.
Tickets, $21 for adults, $18 for seniors and $10 for students, are available at newportpac.com or by calling 541-265-2787.
