The latest Spotlight Show from Newport’s Yaquina Art Association will feature jewelry by Calisse Browne alongside photography by Sylvia Hosie.
Browne, owner of Silver Moments Jewelry by Browne Designs, learned the craft by taking metalsmithing classes at the Denver School of Metal Art and training from other artists.
Raised in Indiana, Browne has drawn inspiration from travels to China, Russia and countries throughout Europe and Africa.
She loves working metals, stones, glass, enamel, and jewels into something unique and beautiful. As well as reading about the metaphysical properties of the stones she uses in her work.
Sylvia A. Hosie is a fine art photographer who has been a member of the Yaquina Art Association since 1984. She is also a member of the Toledo Arts Guild, the Portland Photographic Society and the Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest. Her work is on display year-round at the Yaquina Art Center and the Shilo Resort in Newport
Hosie will be displaying traditional and non-traditional pictures, including some of her new digital paintings, which have a looser, more stylized look. Others are composites of multiple photos and textures.
“The composites are a lot of trial and error,” Hosie said. “You have an image in your head and you start playing. Sometimes it works, other times not. Then there are the ones that take on a life of their own and completely surprise you. Great fun and always a learning experience.”
The show will be on display through Nov. 9, available to view from 11 am to 4 pm daily at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery Nye Beach, 789 NW Beach Drive.
