McMenamins Brewfest set for Aug. 18 Lighthouse Brewpub in Lincoln City
Published Aug. 17, 2007
If you attended last year’s Brewfest at the McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub in Lincoln City, you remember that things got a little bit cozy. By the time the dinner hour arrived, there was barely enough room to sip, let alone drink, the original craft beers that arrived in town for the event. At this year’s festival, set for Saturday, Aug. 18, there should be a little more elbow room. During the winter, McMenamins expanded its only coastal location, at the corner of Logan Road and Hwy. 101 on the north edge of Lincoln City, to add seating upstairs, downstairs and on the deck. The kitchen doubled in size and moved upstairs, leaving more room for taps and bar seating below. It’s also been redecorated with original artwork, including the “Tiny Brewer Art” and posters from the annual festival. A new menu features pizza and calzones and more seafood specials, including Dungeness crab cakes, steamer clams and halibut fish and chips. The Lighthouse still features an onsite brewery with glass walls, offering patrons the chance to see brewers at work among the hand-painted fermenting tanks and mash tuns, crafting McMenamins’ signature ales like Terminator Stout, Hammerhead Ale and Sunflower IPA. Check it out this Saturday at the 12th annual Brewfest, which will showcase ales from 18 McMenamins breweries in Oregon and Washington. Each brewery creates its own distinct craft beer style for this day-long event and the Lighthouse serves up food and drink specials and brewery tours all day long. The event begins at 11 a.m. and runs until closing. There is no admission charge and all ages are welcome until 10 p.m. After that, guests must be 21 and over. There is a charge to taste beer. Original beers at this summer’s event include Cobra Kia, an amber from Concordia Brewery; a Simpsons’-themed “Groundskeeper’s Revenge” from Cornelius Pass; The Broken Paddle porter from the Old St. Francis Brewery; Reach the Peach, a refreshing fruit beer from the Oak Hills Brewery; Rhino-Saucerist, a nitro from the Lighthouse Brewery with 8 percent alcohol-by-volume; and the Green Dragon, a hoppy English-style IPA from McMenamins on the Columbia Brewery. As part of the annual tradition, each participating brewery designs a tiny image to represent their particular brew. This collection of “Tiny Brewer Art,” always amusing if not befuddling, is displayed in the festival booklet provided to patrons, along with descriptions of the beers. McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub is located at 4157 N. Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. Reach the pub at 541-994-7238.
