Forkfly: Forking out Oregon Coast offers, on the Fly
• The Oregon Coast TODAY deploys mobile marketing solution in Tillamook and Lincoln counties
Put down the scissors. Step away from the printer. There’s a new way to save on the Oregon Coast, and it’s available for free, right now, on your smartphone. In early October, the Oregon Coast TODAY launched a partnership with Forkfly.com, bringing a powerful new mobile marketing platform to the Oregon Coast. “With Forkfly, shoppers can fire up their smartphone anywhere in Lincoln or Tillamook counties,” said TODAY publisher Dave Price, “and look for exclusive deals to restaurants, hotels, antique shops, art galleries – basically all kinds of businesses.” Price said the free app, available for Android and iPhone users at the Android Market or on iTunes, or from www.Forkfly.com, is not just about coupon savings. |

“The on-screen coupons are handy, but it’s also a great tool to use to find new ideas when trying to decide on a place to eat dinner or stay for the night. The geolocation feature tells the user exactly how far away they are from the featured businesses, and offers handy one-click access to their websites, or to place a direct call for reservations or more information.”
The Forkfly app was launched in Lincoln City but includes some businesses from Tillamook, Pacific City, Depoe Bay and Newport, with more to come.
“We don’t intend for this to be an app that serves just one community,” Price said. “Our goal is to populate the app with businesses from all along the central coast, drving new business to our advertisers and helping locals and visitors alike get out and enjoy this vibrant marketplace.”
To use Forkfly
You don’t need a smartphone to access the deals on Forkfly. Simply visit www.forkfly.com on your computer, where you can view all the offers available from Oregon Coast merchants and print out any that appeal to you.
Smartphone owners, though, will appreciate the added features that come from the free app, an updated version of which was released in early November.
“We’ve heard lots of people raving about the ability to ‘favorite’ a merchant,” Price said.
Users can click a light-blue heart icon on any merchant’s page and make them a “favorite.” Once that’s done, every time that merchant posts a new deal on the system, the user will get a short message pushed to their mobile device, alerting them to the new offer.
“The customer can also enhance the experience by sharing an offer immediately on their Facebook wall – making for an easy way to alert friends and family about specials or, as an example, where they’ll be for happy hour on any given night!”
To advertise on Forkfly
Merchants can sign up individually for Forkfly simply by visiting www.forkfly.com. However, new and existing advertisers in the Oregon Coast TODAY or on www.oregoncoasttoday.com are eligible for discounted rates and packages. For details, email Dave Price, dave@oregoncoasttoday.com.
“Our advertisers love how easy the system is to use,” Price said.
“We handle setting up their Forkfly account, which takes just a few minutes. Once it’s online, it takes a merchant just a minute or two to log in and post a new offer. It literally allows them to ‘fork’ out offers, on the ‘fly!’”
